City & Stakeholder Platform
The LENS project focuses on monitoring noise and emissions from light vehicles (LVs) and providing recommendations to control their impact now and in the future. By investigating emissions and noise performance under real driving conditions and developing methods to identify tampered vehicles, LENS aims to inform a range of policy options for regulators, cities and authorities.
However, to achieve this goal, effective dissemination of its findings to cities, users and stakeholders, including citizens’ noise and air pollution initiatives and motorcycle clubs is essential. Therefore, the city and stakeholder group was founded in the beginning of the LENS project, which enables the partners to have direct exchange with experts of citizens’ initiatives, cities and other relevant stakeholders from Europe and even beyond.
Objectives & Participation
The cooperation with the participants of the group has five main objectives:
- Educate stakeholders on the significant scale of light vehicle emissions.
- Provide insight into emission assessment models and potential policy options to mitigate negative impacts.
- Share knowledge concerning advanced detection methods for manipulation practices using Share knowledge on advanced detection methods for manipulation practices using new and improved tools, equipment and methodologies.
- Focus group interviews to explore stakeholders’ wants, needs and challenges.
- Exchange on key policy recommendations derived from the project results
Members of this group are invited to visit all three test sites of the project, participate in physical and online workshops, and are in regular contact with members of the LENS consortium.
Physical Meetings
The activities of the Cities and Stakeholders Platform include several events. These aim to encourage cities and stakeholders to provide valuable feedback on the tools being developed, thereby increasing the overall usefulness of the LENS results for city administrations, citizens’ initiatives and other stakeholders across Europe.
15 May 2024 in Leuven (BE)
The first meeting discusses the results of laboratory and road tests. Based on previous tests of L-vehicles conducted by TU Graz, KU Leuven, IVL and the local police, participants share initial observations and insights into the experimental setup.
16-17 September 2024 in Paris (FR)
A special working group meeting organised by POLIS, ACEM and IFPEN is dedicated to light vehicles. Participants gain a comprehensive understanding of the impacts and externalities of light vehicles in urban areas, participate in a live noise and air pollution measurement campaign by LENS and visit the IFPEN vehicle test laboratory.
15 October 2024 in Barcelona (ES)
The final test event focuses on the challenges in Spain and provides an opportunity to share strategies with cities that have successfully tackled noise and emissions issues.
Workshops and final conference in May 2025
Plans for the dissemination of the final project results in Q2 2025 exist, but exact plans concerning the engagement of the group are not yet determined. Nevertheless, the LENS consortium foresees dedicated workshops and an invitation to the final conference.
